The Yamaha XMV8280 Power Amplifier is a versatile 8-channel Class-D amplifier designed specifically for commercial and installed sound systems, such as in restaurants, malls, and banquet halls. It offers high-quality audio and a flexible, efficient feature set for a wide range of installation environments.

The XMV series includes two versions of the XMV8280:
  • XMV8280: Supports Yamaha’s proprietary YDIF digital audio format for simpler, short-distance setups.
  • XMV8280-D: Features Dante digital audio networking for compatibility with Dante-enabled devices in larger venues that require longer cable runs.
Key features
  • Flexible speaker compatibility: The XMV8280 can simultaneously power both high-impedance (70V/100V line) and low-impedance (4Ω/8Ω) speaker systems. This eliminates the need for a separate dedicated amplifier or an external transformer for different speaker types within the same installation.
  • Double Power Mode: This feature allows you to combine the output power of adjacent channels to drive higher-output speakers. For example, two 280W channels can be combined to produce 560W on a single channel.
  • High efficiency: The amplifier uses a patent-pending circuit and Class-D technology to achieve over 90% efficiency. It can automatically switch to a lower voltage drive for low-impedance operation to prevent excess energy loss.
  • Power Factor Correction (PFC): The PFC-equipped switching power supply ensures harmonic control and reduces current draw, which helps prevent circuit breakers from tripping.
  • Redundancy functions: To ensure reliability, the XMV series includes “Backup Mode” and “Override Mode.” Backup Mode can automatically switch to analog inputs if the digital signal is interrupted. Override Mode can switch to a pre-set emergency source when it detects a voice input on an analog channel.
  • Connectivity and control:
    • YDIF / Dante: Depending on the model, the digital input supports either YDIF or Dante, allowing for easy integration with Yamaha MTX/MRX series processors and other networked audio gear.
    • Analog inputs: Euroblock connectors provide four balanced analog inputs.
    • Network control: An Ethernet port allows external control via compatible AMX/Crestron controllers.
  • Protection features: Built-in safeguards protect the amplifier from overheating, overcurrent, and low-load impedance, ensuring long-term reliability.
