The Yamaha THR100H Dual is a 100-watt, two-channel modeling guitar amp head that simulates the sound and dynamics of various classic tube amplifiers. It was first introduced around 2015 as part of the Yamaha THR series, bringing the popular “third amp” concept (a serious practice and recording amp) to a stage-ready format.
Key features
Dual amp functionality
The THR100H Dual is essentially two identical 50-watt amp heads built into a single chassis. This allows for a variety of tonal options:
A/B switching: Use one channel for clean tones and the other for distorted tones and switch between them with the included footswitch.
A+B blending: Combine the two channels to layer different amps and tube types for a massive, unique, blended tone.
Dual inputs: Two guitarists can plug into the amp at the same time and play through separate channels into different cabinets.
Tone customization
Amp models: Five VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) amp types are available on each channel, covering a wide range of tones from solid-state to high-gain:
Solid: Provides a clean, bright, and powerful solid-state tone with plenty of headroom.
Clean: A vintage American-style clean amp tone.
Crunch: A classic British-style crunch tone.
Lead: A high-gain British-style lead tone.
Modern: A high-gain modern American metal tone.
Tube emulation: Users can select between five different virtual power tube types for each channel, providing a distinct tonal flavor:
6V6: Warm with fast breakup and rich harmonics.
EL84: Smooth, harmonically rich, and musical.
KT88: Big, clean, and tight tone with lots of headroom.
6L6GC: Strong midrange and bright, clean punch.
EL34: Pronounced midrange with a tight low end and crisp treble.
Class A/AB switching: Further tailor the feel and response of each channel by selecting between Class A and Class A/B operation.
Effects and connectivity
Boost: An assignable VCM boost is available on each channel, with three types selectable via the companion utility software.
Reverb: Includes four high-quality reverb types—Hall, Room, Plate, and Spring—that can be selected and edited via USB.
Effects loop: A stereo effects loop can be configured as series or parallel via the utility software.
Impulse response (IR) speaker simulation: Features a speaker simulator on the XLR line outputs and headphone jack, allowing you to load your own custom IR files for direct recording or silent practice.
High-resolution connectivity: XLR line outputs are included for direct connection to professional recording or live sound equipment.
Included footswitch: A dedicated five-button footswitch is included for controlling channel switching (A, B, or A+B), reverb, boost, and effects loop.
USB connectivity: Connect to a computer to access the utility software for deeper editing of effects, IRs, and other hidden parameters.
