Design & Construction: The YEV 105 has an elegant, infinity-loop-like design crafted from six different woods (spruce, mahogany, maple body, and a walnut frame). This construction provides natural resonance and strength, while remaining lightweight (approx. 580g).
Playability: It is a 4/4 size instrument with relative dimensions similar to traditional acoustic violins, allowing the use of standard chin and shoulder rests. It features an ebony chinrest and pegs, and a rosewood (or resin-impregnated wood) fingerboard.
Electronics:
Pickup: The instrument uses the same type of high-output passive piezo-electric bridge pickup found in Yamaha’s professional series, effectively capturing the instrument’s sound and bowing nuances.
Output: It has a simple ¼-inch passive output jack and does not require batteries.
Controls: A volume control knob and a selector switch are located on the back, allowing players to bypass the volume control for a direct, full-potential signal, ideal for connecting to an amp or pedals.
Strings: The YEV 105 comes factory-strung with D’Addario Zyex strings, with a D’Addario Helicore for the 5th (low C) string.
Color Variations: The violin is available in a natural wood finish (NT) or a gloss black (B) finish.
